FORM is now accepting submissions.

Prof. Enrique Martinez opens his blog to submissions / collaborators:

“Form is now accepting submissions. This blog wants to be a participatory forum about the topic of form in art, architecture, design and everyday life and I look forward to including in it your images and thoughts.

Interested? Send me just one image (jpeg, 1MB max.) and a small text (250 words max.) of anything human-made that you consider formally extraordinary, explaining your reasons or making a statement about it. It could be your work or the work of others; contemporary, futuristic or part of the past; high or low, simple or complex; buildings, spaces, objects, experiments, everyday things, artworks, designs…just one image and a small text, so that we keep it brief for many people to participate.

Send your material to form@muchieast.com with your name, contact information and a few words about who you are, what you do and why are you interested in form.”

Also see his blog about OBJECTS.

YOUR VOTES NEEDED FOR A GRANT!

Something from Jason Atkins (M.Arch 2009):

Hey all,
I’m working on an Engineers without Borders project to construct rainwater harvesting tanks for Kerala, India. We are now one of ten finalists for Mountain Dew’s Energize Your Community competition. By becoming a top 5 finalist we will recieve a $10,000 grant to construct mock-ups here and in India.

To help reach this goal we need lots of votes. So… if you would be so willing, you can vote at ENERGIZEYOURCOMMUNITY.COM

Click on “project gallery”, then under phase 1 go to “finalists” and vote for our project “Rainwater for Humanity”. The few minutes it takes to register and vote could mean clean water for people of Kuttanad, Kerala, India. The competition is in the final week so please try to vote every day.

Thanks so much!
Jason Atkins

On Tuesday, February 10, 8 PM in Barus & Holley 190 (Corner of Hope & George), join Brown University’s Engineers Without Borders to help with rainwater harvesting in India
The Brown University - Engineers without Borders has just initiated a project to provide 700,000 with clean drinking water by capturing rainfall in Kerala, India.  The project will directly address a need in the community and will work directly with local community members and organizations in order to design an appropriate rainwater harvesting system and train a local group in their construction.   The project team is in need of practical, technically-minded designers comfortable in an interdisciplinary environment that would like to gain experience independently initiating and carrying out a humanitarian project in Kerala, India.  The project team will travel to Kerala in August 2009 in order to implement the systems.  For more information contact Peter Boyer (Peter_Boyer@brown.edu).
If you have to miss the meeting, learn more at Respond|Design’s meeting on Tuesday, Feb 17 @ 7PM in the RISD Store lounge.
